Index formulas for hypoelliptic operators and cyclic cohomology

Short introductory lectures.

A hypoelliptic pseudodifferential operator on a compact manifold is Fredholm and therefore has a well defined index. I will discuss cyclic cohomology based approach to finding a formula for the index of a class of such operators.
